Last March, we all made a ton of banana bread. Speaking for myself here, I stuck to pretty basic recipes that used items I already had laying around for my loaves but now that I’ve had almost a year’s worth of experience baking, I’m ready to take the next step. Enter stage left Giada De Laurentiis and her take on banana bread that includes a gluten-free and chocolate chip-packed version of the classic.

The Italian-American chef shares a bunch of easy recipes on the Instagram account @thegiadzy. From pasta dishes to decadent desserts, all her recipes are pretty simple to follow along with while looking delicious. Giada’s gluten-free chocolate chip banana bread is a riff on the staple and is a good way for amateur bakers to step it up a notch especially if they’ve been on the lookout for a gluten-free confection that still packs all the flavor.
Giada’s recipe calls for bananas, egg, almond butter, coconut oil, coconut sugar, almond milk, almond flour, rice flour, salt, vanilla, baking soda, cinnamon, walnuts, and chocolate chips. The combination of different flours, nut butters, and oils ensures the banana loaf comes out of the oven crispy and dense yet moist.
This particular recipe was first seen on an episode of Giada Entertains, a Food Network program that is now available for streaming on the discovery+ platform, where Giada stars in a new food show with Bobby Flay as well. I’m thinking you make some warm gluten-free banana bread, bundle up on the couch, and watch Giada and Bobby explore the food scene of Italy. Sound good?
